In 2009, following a proposal by blocSyndicate Ltd., the two eruption caves on Chã Das Caldeiras were opened to the public. The proven safety system from via ferrata construction and the Bordeira was used. In terms of safety and aesthetics, the two caves “Braku Monte Pretu” and “Braku Pico Pequeno” offer a nice alternative to the Pico de Fogo.

Climb

SPORT CLIMBING ON THE VOLCANO

Sport climbing, also known as free climbing, and bouldering are now popular sports. Almost everyone has heard of it, seen pictures and film excerpts, or perhaps even climbed it themselves. In Europe there is a dense network of climbing gyms where you can try your first vertical steps. Germany is one of the countries with the most artificial climbing facilities.

Bouldering

BOULDERING ON THE VOLCANO

Bouldering was once considered training for proper climbing in the Alps. That was a long time ago and nowadays bouldering is a sport in its own right that requires special training at the higher levels of difficulty. As with sport climbing, there are also bouldering halls in many European cities. Some of the bouldering areas are integrated into the climbing hall, some are just bouldering halls.
